Medialogistika Days, day 2: ОТТ services, new TV channels and practical tips from market experts
Day two of the Medialogistika Days conference opened with remarks by Yana Belskaya (Cableman.ru), who offered the audience a look back on the very onset of the pandemic last year. She noted that television fared well during the lockdown. Television workers were in the spotlight because, on the one hand, the public was glued to screens and, on the other hand, there was an acute shortage of content to show. Sports channels suffered the most, considering their viewership centers on live broadcasts. Yana also commented on the relations between providers and TV companies. Just like desert creatures during a drought, they lent each other a helping hand and forgave late license fees. Online streaming services got a huge boost. According to 2020 figures, online streaming services attracted the most traffic. Yana noted an explosive surge in television viewership – in fact, news was even more popular than entertainment. The number of new channels launched last year is around the same as the number of channels that did not survive the pandemic.
